29 September is World Heart Day!
MAIA-Pilot is a strategic cooperation between the Charité and the Fraunhofer in which a joint centre for AI & intelligent sensor technology is to be established at the Charité. On World Heart Day on 29 September 2024, we present a sub-project of MAIA-Pilot.
According to the Heart Report 2024, the age-standardised hospitalisation rate for heart failure in 2022 was 448 per 100,000 inhabitants, making it the most common single diagnosis for patients treated as inpatients. The sub-project presented deals with sensor-based monitoring and automatic therapy control of heart failure patients. Fraunhofer MEVIS, Fraunhofer ITMP, Fraunhofer IZM, the Institute of Computer-assisted Cardiovascular Medicine (ICM) and the Deutsches Herztentrum der Charité are involved in the project.
As part of the sub-project CePPH, a wearable concept was developed to enable continuous monitoring of the health status of heart failure patients. Blood pressure, ECG, movement data, weight and heart sounds are recorded. Individual details about the patient's condition are also recorded. This data is analysed using AI and mathematical models to enable early adjustment of therapies in the event of changes in the patient's state of health and thus avoid hospitalisation. In addition, data and analyses are made available to the treating medical staff via a dashboard to provide a comprehensive picture of the development of the patient's state of health.
