ICM Research on the International Stage
At the Eurographics Symposium on Visual Computing for Biology and Medicine (VCBM 2026) in Ljubljana, Slovenia, the Institute for Cardiovascular Computer-Assisted Medicine (ICM) was represented with two scientific presentations. The symposium took place from September 16 to 18, 2026, and brought together international researchers from the fields of visual computing, medical imaging, and computer-assisted medicine.
Lisa Bautz, a research associate at the ICM, presented the paper “Reconstruction of 3D Whole Heart Mesh from 2D Cardiac Images”. The paper was produced as part of the MYKKE-Echo project and deals with the reconstruction of a three-dimensional heart model from two-dimensional cardiac image data. The methods developed are intended to enable a detailed three-dimensional representation of cardiac structures, thereby opening up new possibilities for the computer-aided analysis of medical image data.

Another presentation was given by Markus Hüllebrand, a research associate at the ICM. With “BeLOVE X-Talker: Interactive Heart-Brain Cross-Talk Explore” , he introduced an interactive application for visualizing the interaction between the heart and the brain. The work was developed as part of the SPP Radiomics Project and demonstrates how complex relationships between cardiac and cerebral signals can be explored using interactive visualization.
