On September 1, 2026, Isabell Esslinger successfully defended her dissertation titled “Platelet Adhesion on Modified Titanium Surfaces: Effects of Surface Roughness, Zeta Potential, and Coatings for Continuous-Flow Ventricular Assist Devices,” thereby earning the academic degree of Dr.-Ing.
Her work focused on investigating platelet adhesion to modified titanium surfaces. In particular, she examined the influence of surface roughness, zeta potential, and coatings on platelet adhesion. These findings are particularly significant for the further development of continuous-flow ventricular assist devices.
The defense was presided over by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marc Kraft (on the left in the photo). The examiners were Priv.-Doz. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Kertzscher (second from the right) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dirk Oberschmidt (on the right).
